Two Who Remember the Sea (2025) grows from the artists' shared fascination with the spaces and rituals of the cinematic. The invitation began with the slowly unrolling theatre backdrops in Weerasethakul's Blue (2018), whose shifting gradients of twilight echoed the brightening skies of early morning in Singapore. Installed in the wooded quiet of Wessex Estate, a former colonial residence, the work extends that sensibility into the open. Suspended sheets of silver fabric sway with the sun and wind, moving like figures passing through a clearing. Their constant opening and closing forms a permeable screen that catches light, shadow and drifting air, allowing the forest to shape the image as much as the artists do. In this setting, the installation listens closely to local vernaculars of the environment: humidity that dampens movement, intense light that washes forms out, landscapes that never stay still. It echoes Weerasethakul's own belief that memory, time and observation transform moment by moment.
